Bentoel is the most important pillar in the hand-rolled clove cigarette production in Indonesia. Targeted to middle to low class adults. Bentoel Sejati is best savoured after a hard day work.
Bentoel Internasional Investama is an Indonesian tobacco company. In June 2009, British American Tobacco, the world's second largest tobacco company, acquired an 87% stake in Bentoel. In early 2010, the company became a member of BAT. Later, BAT decreased its stake in Bentoel to 60% with the owning of Japan Tobacco's stake in Bentoel 40%

These come plastic wrapped inside of the pack. The cigarettes are tapered and not too tightly packed, therefore some bits are bound to stick to your mouth. Good taste and burn. They do have a nice amount of clove, random pop, and big ash. Clove oil shows through on the white paper.

Bentoel Sejati is a very different kind of unfiltered kretek. It has a very muted and restrained clove/spice taste, and this is a good thing. The tobacco manages to be full, rich and somewhat complex yet very smooth. With such a small amount of spices, the tobacco can really come into play and show off. There was very little crackling from the Sejatis, indicative of the low clove content; the high nicotine content suggests that there simply is more tobacco and less other stuff in there too, I believe.
That´s it: just superb tobacco, backed up by subtle cloves and spices, with a sweetened paper. This is far from all the "look how spicy/scented/brash/whatever I am!" kreteks going around. I truly believe that non-kretek smokers, and even smokers who don´t like kreteks, could instantly fall for this cigarette. Make sure to try Bentoel Sejati; it´s a great alternative to any other unfiltered kretek, very different and very, very satisfying. If this is what Indonesian tobacco is like, I certainly hope that Djarum/GG/Bentoel/etc release some clove-free cigarettes - sweetened paper and some spices would be fine, just not cloves, so the tobacco can be properly tasted.

Not as fragrant or complex as the Djarum 76s I remember.
Strong, quality tobacco taste with a very smooth draw. Slightly faster burn time than your average kretek at about 12-15 minutes as opposed to close to 20 for some Djarums.
Tasteful minimalistic packaging and paper; blue banded with a stylized tobacco leaf with the branding written below it.
I appreciated that the clove notes, while present, weren't overly sweet. Very smooth draw and pleasant tasting paper. Medium body on the smoke. Not too complex, but consistent and VERY smooth for a non-filter.

It has been a long time since I've had a clove cigarette, and this was a pleasant return. This cigarette is very tightly rolled, and stuffed with tobacco and just enough clove.
It has a strong, yet not overpowering scent of clove, and the smoke went down surprisingly well considering the cigarette doesn't have a filter. The tobacco is of excellent quality and the few bits that stuck to my lips had a wonderful flavor which was enhanced with a bit of sweetness from the clove oil.
I would definitely buy this again and recommend it to anyone looking for a clove cigarette.
